Northern California Wine Country Region

The Northern California Wine Country is an area in the United States that is known as a premium wine-growing region. Since the middle 19th century, winemaking and viticulture have been practiced in the region. The region is not only being defined in terms of viticulture but also geology, ecology, architecture, culture, and cuisine.

In the north of San Francisco, there are over 800 wineries, which are mostly located in the valley areas, including Napa Valley in Napa County, and the Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Bennett Valley, and Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. In higher elevations such as Atlas Peak and Mount Veeder, wine grapes are also grown here.

And of cos, the Livermore Valley in the Tri-Valley of Alameda County, California,  is also a Viticultural Area. The city is named after Robert Livermore, a landowner whose holdings encompassed the valley. The groundwater basin underlying the valley is the Livermore Basin, The Basin is one of five aquifers in the San Francisco Bay Area that supply most of the metropolitan Bay Area population.
